Marguerite Diana McIntyre-Pike OD, BSc Community Tourism Consultant/Trainer with a BSc degree in Tourism Management, Diplomas in Hotel Management, Tourism, Catering Operations, Marketing where she studied professionally in Jamaica the UK and Germany and. and a Certificate in Environmental Management from the George Washington University USA She is President of the International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT) Caribbean, Coordinator of the IIPT International Community Tourism Network and President/Founder of the Countrystyle Community Tourism Network(CCTN). She was Chairman of the Caribbean Hotel Association’s Small Hotels Committee for over eight years and developed and implemented the CARIBBEAN SMALL HOTELS RETREAT.
She has built the Villages as Businesses programme to empower member villages, through tour design, training, management and marketing support, to profit from community tourism, Countrystyle Community Tourism Network (CCTN) had partnered with the University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus for a certified Community Tourism Hospitality Entrepreneurship 5 day training through the Countrystyle Academy for Community Tourism (ACT) which was first implemented in Barbados and now resulted in the creation of the Barbados Community Tourism Network Inc. In 2021, The US Embassy offered a grant to the UWI Open Campus and the Countrystyle Community Tourism Network (CCTN) to train 130 community persons in Community Tourism Entrepreneurship virtually called ENHANCING SAFETY & SECURITY FOR JAMAICAN AND INTERNATIONAL VISITORS THROUGH COMMUNITY TOURISM.
Her expertise is in marketing, public relations, hotel and catering, motivational speaking, training and development of personnel in sustainable community tourism. In Jamaica and the Caribbean region, she has trained and developed several communities in self-development including etiquette, environment and general knowledge on a voluntary and professional basis and is a full time Community Tourism Consultant/Trainer. The Countrystyle Community Experience Tours have successfully attracted local and overseas visitors to experience the Jamaican culture, heritage, music, cuisine, and general way of life. The Countrystyle Village Programme has now become a major feature for “The Community Lifestyle Experience Vacations” in Jamaica and the Caribbean
She has provided Consultant Services and Basic Hospitality Skills and Entrepreneurship training in community tourism to several Caribbean countries and Jamaican communities and organizations (including Island Routes)– the main ones being Dominica, St. Eustatius, Antigua, St. Lucia, Grenada, Anguilla, Barbados, Trinidad, St. Vincent and South Africa. This has resulted in several community tourism networks being established and partners for Countrystyle and the Villages as Businesses programme She has assisted the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) in presenting over 40 niche markets in community tourism for 10 Caribbean countries which included mainly ecotourism, cultural heritage tourism, health and wellness tourism and agritourism.
She has created the marketing arm for community tourism Lifestyle Experiences in Jamaica and the Caribbean region through the Countrystyle Community Tourism Network (CCTN)
Her over 44 years of pioneering services of Community Tourism internationally have garnered widespread recognition, including Virgin Holidays` Award for Best Overall Personal Contribution to Responsible Tourism (2008), Jamaica’s Order of Distinction (OD) (2009) and IIPT’s Lifetime Achievement Award (2013). Through the Women’s Bureau of Jamaica, she was one of 50 women receiving the 2012 International Women’s Day Award. Islands Magazine selected Countrystyle for one
of its 2007 Responsible Tourism Awards and featured the Community Experience packages among the world’s top 20 Responsible Tourism offerings. In August 2016 she was given a Community Tourism Activist Award by the African Diaspora Tourism Network Atlanta and inducted into their Hall of Fame. She was awarded the President’s Distinguished Service Award by the National Association of Jamaicans and Supportive Organizations (NAJASO) at their 2012 Annual Convention in Buffalo New York, USA. She was selected by UNESCO Europe as one of the 50 World Experts in Sustainable Tourism to attend their Experts World Heritage Sites Sustainable Tourism meeting in Switzerland in October 2011 and recently one of the Caribbean experts in Cultural Heritage tourism to attend the Organizations of American States (OAS) Experts meeting in Barbados.
She was contracted by the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) to participate as a Resource Community Tourism Consultant in their National Consultations in Niche Marketing through community-based tourism which covered 8 eastern Caribbean countries. This was followed by a 5-day training programme in Community Tourism Entrepreneurship for 47 community persons hosted by the Antigua & Barbuda Ministry of Tourism. She has trained many communities in community tourism entrepreneurship in Jamaica, Dominica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad and Barbados. Dominica was the main one in Marigot. She received a Global Tourism Award from the Wheatle Peart Branding organization Chicago. Also, the IIPT Championship Business Resilience Award in London November 2019. She was recently appointed the Director of Tourism for the Caribbean of for the 6thRegional Global Chamber of Commerce.
She celebrated 40 years of community tourism in 2018 which was branded community tourism by both Desmond Henry and her in 1978 with Treasure Beach and Mandeville paving the way – the IIPT declared 2018 as it the International Year of Community Tourism and Peace in collaboration with Countystyle/Villages as Businesses and branded Jamaica THE HOME OF COMMUNITY TOURISM which is now joined by the Caribbean.
