1 DAY TREKKING/KAYAKING, LAOS
Nong Khiaw is a small village in Northern Laos that straddles the Nam Ou River. Quaint guest houses, family homes, amazing food, friendly faces, and dirt roads line the river. Narrow footpaths wind through the jungle and lead to incredible hikes up breathtaking limestone mountains. If you’re an explorer who likes to enjoy life one adventure at a time, add Nong Khiaw to your list. There are endless places to explore and the slow pace of life makes it the perfect place to sit back and relax for a little while too.
You start from our agency in Nong Khiaw around 9:00 am, than take the slow boat ride up the river for 45 minutes to a small khmu Lao farming village called Ban Houy Hoy, which you explore. Then you go up river by boat again to a Sopking Khmu village where the one hour trek starts through local rice paddies, jungle valleys and small mountain slopes. Finally you reach a stream and after a little climb reach a waterfall with a small swimming area where are you can swim and have provided lunch.
Returning to the river bank your guide will give you a safety briefing and a short introduction to the basics of the kayaking.
You then journey downstream, seeing many bird species, water buffalo, fisher men, enjoying the quiet and peace and spectacle of the river ou.
